EDINBURG – A jury sentenced an Edinburg man to 80 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault.

A jury was selected on June 6, 2022 and the trial was held from June 7, 2022 to June 10, 2022. The jury reached a verdict on June 10, 2022 and found Andrew Salazar Ramos, 32, guilty of Counts 1 -4 (1^st degree felony) Aggravated Sexual Assault,  Count 5 (2^nd degree felony) Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury, and Count 6 (1^st degree felony) Aggravated Kidnapping. He was sentenced to 80 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.

The case went before the Honorable Judge Bobby Flores of the 139^th District Court. The case was prosecuted by Special Crimes Division Chief Hope Palacios and Felony Division Assistant District Attorney AnaLiz De Leon-Vargas; with assistance by Court Advocate Ilda Sifuentes; DA Investigators Linda Greenwood and David White; Edinburg Police Department; Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab; and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.

“No person should be subject to this type of attack and abuse. I commend Special Crimes Division Chief Hope Palacios and ADA AnaLiz De Leon-Vargas for their hard work in getting this violent offender off our streets,” said Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr.

On October 9, 2017, Ramos offered to provide a waitress a ride home. He physically and sexually assaulted her. He then took her unconscious body to several locations. She was found with the defendant at a local hotel, badly beaten.
