It will be the mission of the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office-Public Integrity Unit (“PIU”) to improve the public’s trust in their public servants and the judicial system, by ensuring that corruption of government and government function is thoroughly and independently investigated, with appropriate charges being brought when needed.
To that end, the PIU will review and prosecute offenses involving public servants and government functions. This includes, but is not limited to, offenses such as bribery, voter fraud, forgery of government records, perjury, misuse of public funds, falsifying reports or records, embezzlement, barratry, or conspiracy to engage in a corrupt endeavor with, or on behalf of a public official. When requested by the Texas Rangers, the PIU will review officer-involved shootings, deaths in law enforcement custody, allegations of improper use of force by law enforcement and other allegations of police misconduct. The PIU will also review and prosecute crimes by businesses or corporations to defraud customers, commonly referred to as White Collar Crimes.
