Alamo man sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual abuse of a child

ALAMO – A Hidalgo County Jury found an Alamo man guilty on three counts of sexual abuse of a child and he was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.

A jury trial was held for Miguel Angel Chavez, 59, from October 3 to October 6 in the 206th District Court. After deliberations, the jury found Chavez guilty on October 6. The Honorable Judge Rose Guerra Reyna sentenced Chavez to 25 years in prison on October 12.

Chavez was found guilty of:

  • Count One – Sex Abuse of Child Continuous: Victim under 14 (1st degree felony)
  • Count Two – Aggravated Sexual Assault of Child (1st degree felony)
  • Count Four – Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact (2nd degree felony).

 

The case was prosecuted by Special Crimes Division Assistant District Attorney’s Marcela Saenz-Salinas and Laura Rodriguez; with assistance from investigators Linda Greenwood and David White; and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

“I want to commend ADA’s Marcela Saenz-Salinas and Laura Rodriguez for getting this child predator off our streets,” said Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez, Jr.

The abuse occurred for over eight years, beginning when the child was six-years-old.
